The White House previously criticized Russian sanctions, joking that no one is planning a vacation to Moscow. A list of 963 Americans has been permanently prohibited from entering Russia. That list includes actor Morgan Freeman and deceased US senator John McCain.
Moscow’s prohibitions are the latest in a series of responses to sanctions placed on the country for invading Ukraine. Morgan Freeman is on the list reportedly as a result of his appearance in a 2017 video film accusing Russia of interference in American democracy.
According to CNN, Freeman narrated a promotional video for an organization called The Committee to Investigate Russia. The video was made by Rob Reiner, who is best known for films such as The Princess Bride and When Harry Met Sally, and he has been added to the Kremlin’s list of people to follow. Mr. McCain is one of three deceased former senators listed on the list. The people on the list, according to Russia’s foreign ministry, “incite Russophobia.”
We emphasize that the hostile actions taken by Washington, which boomerang against the United States itself, will continue to receive a proper rebuff. Russian counter-sanctions are forced and aimed at forcing the ruling American regime… to change its behavior, recognizing new geopolitical realities.
President Joe Biden was barred from entering Russia in March as a result of sanctions imposed on the country following the invasion of Ukraine. The White House mocked Russian sanctions, joking that no one was planned a vacation to Moscow and implying that Vladimir Putin’s regime had targeted the wrong Joe Biden.
Along with Hillary Clinton, Antony Blinken, the secretary of state, CIA Director William Burns, Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin, and National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan were included to the 13-name Kremlin “stop list.” Mark Zuckerberg of Meta and George Soros are also on the larger list revealed on Saturday. The list contains politicians from both sides of the political aisle, from Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez to Marjorie Taylor Greene, as well as some deceased politicians.
