DDPete Davidson joined the cast of the NBC late-night sketch comedy series Saturday Night Live in 2014 and stayed for eight seasons before leaving in 2022. This has to be heartbreaking for him and everyone else who enjoyed his appearance on the show. Pete recently reflected on his career during Weekend Update, mentioning Kanye West and Ariana Grande in his emotional final SNL appearance.
During his final episode of Saturday Night Live, Pete Davidson took an emotional trip down memory lane. Pete appeared on Weekend Update on May 21st with castmates Colin Jost and Michael Che, a day after it was announced that he would not be returning to SNL for the next season.
“Hello, Colin, Che, and millions of people only watching to see if I bring up Kanye [West],” Pete started the segment. Pete and the Donda rapper have been feuding since the comedian started dating Kanye’s ex-girlfriend Kim Kardashian last fall. When Colin inquired if he was truly leaving the show, Pete responded with a Harry Potter joke, stating, “Yeah man, Lorne [Michaels] accidentally gifted me a sock so I’m free.”
The King of Staten Island star, on the other hand, took a moment to praise the SNL creator, saying he “always gives the best advice.” According to Pete, this includes his 2018 engagement to Ariana Grande, which they called off after four months.
“I’ll never forget this: I called him when I got engaged and said, ‘Lorne, I just got engaged to Ariana Grande after dating for two weeks.’ And he said, ‘Oh! Hold on for dear life!'”
Pete thanked the show for “always having my back” and “allowing me to work on myself and grow” over the last eight seasons in a touching moment at the end of the sketch.
“Thank you to Lorne for never giving up on me or judging me even when everyone else was. And for believing me and allowing me to have a place I could call home with the memories that will last a lifetime.”
Pete wrote a heartfelt statement to viewers before the episode, which his pal Dave Sirus shared on Instagram. Pete isn’t the only SNL cast member who said their final farewells in the season 47 finale. Aidy Bryant and Kyle Mooney also made their final appearances, as did Kate McKinnon, who played Mrs. Rafferty, one of her most beloved characters, in the show’s cold open.
This must have been difficult on Pete and the rest of the cast, but life moves on. Let’s see if Kim shows up to support him. To get the latest updates, keep an eye on Thirsty.
