Earlier today 14 children were killed during a school shooting at an elementary school in Uvalde, Texas. The shooter, who may have had a handgun and rifle, was fatally wounded after law enforcement responded to the attack. This is yet another instance of gun violence to occur in the U.S. The debate on gun ownership is actively discussed due to incidents such as the one today. Now, it seems one of the most famous basketball players in the world is giving his two cents regarding the issue.
LeBron James took to Twitter after the horrific incident to speak about the shooting. He primarily took issue with how schools have now become unsafe and why lawmakers need to step forward. James didn’t mince words when he says that more action needs to be taken.
My thoughts and prayers goes out to the families of love ones loss & injured at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, TX! Like when is enough enough man!!! These are kids and we keep putting them in harms way at school. Like seriously “AT SCHOOL” where it’s suppose to be the safest! There simply has to be change! HAS TO BE!! Praying to the heavens above to all with kids these days in schools.
This isn’t the first time James has pleaded his case for gun control. After a 5-month-old child and 10 people were killed during a mass shooting in a Cleveland Community College in 2015, James took to Twitter and simply wrote that there is no room for guns. James also responded to tragic deaths resulted from police violence, including Mike Brown and Tamir Rice.
King James has become a powerful figure in the world of sports and entertainment, but even his voice may not be enough to completely change the opinions of those who are against gun control.
Still, what matters today is that another tragedy has rocked the U.S. Along with the deaths at Robb Elementary, two officers were struck when they exchanged gun fire with the shooter. We can only hope that incidents such as the one today will stop occurring so much as it has lately.
