Doja Cat is currently one of the most prominent pop stars in the industry, and she adores her work. Fans can’t get enough of her unique style, which has helped her climb to superstardom. Doja recently spoke about her love for rap and Nicki Minaj’s influence on her.
Doja Cat recently sat down for an interview with Elle. She revealed that winning a Grammy in the rap category would mean “everything” to her, despite hip hop purists debating whether she is a rapper. “Best Friend,” her collaboration with Saweetie, was nominated for Best Rap Song earlier this year.
Doja praised Nicki Minaj as one of her big influences later in the interview. They previously cooperated on a remix of Doja’s “Say So.” Doja admires the way Nicki carries herself.
I think her as a businesswoman really inspired me. The way Nicki can carry herself felt almost alien to me, because I was kind of a little runty kid, trapped in her room, just watching YouTube videos. And back then I was like, ‘Damn, that’s dope.’
She also spoke about her love for rap, including Busta Rhymes and Lauryn Hill. Remy Ma is one well-known figure who has said Doja isn’t a rapper. In a March appearance on Drink Champs, the famed rapper commended Doja for her “dope tracks,” but claimed her music shouldn’t be classified as “rapper.” Take a look at Doja’s Elle profile cover below.
