The horrific shooting inside an elementary school in Uvalde, Texas, prompted calls for legislators to tighten control laws in the United States. As details of the tragedy continue to unfold, athletes are speaking out against the tragedy.

San Francisco Giants Manager Gabe Kapler is the latest to protest the gruesome incident. Gable Kapler says he doesn’t plan on taking the field for the national anthem in the wake of the rampage.

“I don’t plan on coming out for the anthem going forward until I feel better about the direction of our country. I don’t expect it to move the needle necessarily. It’s just something that I feel strongly about to take that step.”

An 18-year-old gunman killed 19 children and two teachers Tuesday at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas. The gunman was carrying an AR-15-style assault rifle.
