Bad Bunny teamed up with Damian Priest and squared off The Miz & John Morrison in a tag team match on Night One of WrestleMania 37 last year. Bad Bunny’s performance was better an anyone could’ve imagined. WWE was still criticized for not being able to hook viewers who tuned in to see Bad Bunny.
Bad Bunny got a lot of praise for his work and he also truly appreciated the pro wrestling world after training hard for the event. Bad Bunny also said that pro wrestling is ‘100% real’ and this garnered a lot of positive reception from fans and Superstars alike.
Not only that, but Bad Bunny also appeared during the Men’s Royal Rumble match this year. For a long time, wrestling promoters have brought in celebrities in order to gain more viewers for their shows.
WWE is no exception to this as well. While speaking on NBC Sports Boston, Vince Russo criticized WWE for not being able to hook viewers who tuned in to see Bad Bunny.
“They don’t because you don’t hook them, that’s why they don’t stay around. Using Bad Bunny and all that stuff is a great business ploy if you hook those extra viewers when they tune in but they never do. After WrestleMania, you’re gonna get a huge audience and we would do everything. To grab that audience, these were potential new viewers. It wasn’t a one-and-done, for the last 20 years, you could look at the huge numbers Monday. After WrestleMania, the following week they’re right back where they started.”
Bad Bunny’s Royal Rumble appearance this year was a one-off. We will have to wait and see when the musical sensation will return to WWE. Fans would love to see him back as well.
