John Cena is widely regarded as one of the all-time greatest professional wrestlers. The former rapper and actor is presently signed to WWE. Vince McMahon’s company recently announced that ‘John Cena Month’ will be celebrated to honor his 20th anniversary.
WWE has announced that they will host a ‘John Cena month’ in June to celebrate Cena’s 20th year with the company. Cena made his WWE debut against Kurt Angle on June 27, 2002.
WWE was forever changed on June 27, 2002, when a then-unknown powerhouse by the name of John Cena stormed onto SmackDown for the very first time. Answering an open challenge issued by Kurt Angle, Cena boldly declared himself an agent of “ruthless aggression” before paint-brushing The Olympic Gold Medalist across the face. The rest, as they say, is history. Sixteen World Title reigns, countless Attitude Adjustments and numerous Hollywood blockbusters later, Cena’s debut remains a watershed moment in sports-entertainment lore, the introduction of arguably the biggest Superstar of the modern era, if not WWE history. In honor of the upcoming 20-year anniversary of that seminal night, WWE is paying tribute to The Cenation Leader throughout June with the launch of #CenaMonth. Starting today, keep your eyes locked on WWE social platforms to celebrate all things John Cena. The festivities include a brand-new episode of WWE Playback featuring The Cenation Leader breaking down his own debut, Cena-themed editions of WWE Top 10 and WWE Playlist, a bevy of rare and unseen photos, tons of classic throwback videos, and much more! Join the celebration by sharing your favorite Cena moments and memories all month long using the hashtag #CenaMonth.
Cena, a joint-record 16-time world champion, has won the WWE Championship 13 times, a title record. He is a five-time US Champion, a four-time world tag team champion, a two-time Royal Rumble match winner, and a one-time Money in the Bank match-winner.
He headlined numerous major WWE pay-per-view events, including the company’s flagship event, WrestleMania. His professional wrestling career has received mixed critical and fans reactions, with acclaim for his character work and promotional abilities but criticism for his apparent over-representation and on-screen placement in comparison to other wrestlers.
Cena’s World Title reigns were also regarded as more prestigious than Ric Flair’s. John Cena is likely to return to WWE later this year. We’ll have to wait and see what WWE has in store for him whenever he returns. He did tease a WWE return recently, and it wouldn’t be a huge surprise to see him in June depending on who you ask.
