Amber Heard was ordered to pay $15 million after losing her defamation case against Johnny Depp. The media circus that engulfed the court proceedings captured the imaginations of Americans everywhere. Ultimately, the jury shared the same sentiment as the public did about Heard’s guilt.
The massive amount of money that Amber has been ordered to cough up came as a shock to Heard and her legal team. One of Heard’s legal representatives, Elaine Charlson Bredehoft, appeared on Today to discuss the case. She said that social media almost certainly had an influence on the jurors and that Amber Heard will appeal the verdict.
Interestingly, Bredehoft was asked if Amber Heard will be able to afford such a hefty amount. The answer was clear and to the point. Amber Heard doesn’t have the cash to pay up.
“Oh, no. Absolutely not.”
Bredehoft said that the jury was also swayed by the judge’s decision that a UK ruling that declared Johnny Depp a domestic abuser not to be allowed in court. The argument from the other side is that case had a different defendant and was tried under the laws of another nation. Still, Amber Heard’s legal team fought to allow those facts as evidence but were denied.
Amber Heard will eventually appeal the ruling. In the meantime, it sounds like Johnny Depp will have a difficult time collecting the money he is owed. Time will tell if he ever sees a cent of the judgment.
