WWE has been trying to enter the NFT space for quite some time. An attempt to sell the ostensibly ‘valuable’ online collectibles failed miserably upon the first try. The new “Moonsault” NFT marketplace seems to be off to a better start.
WWE launched the new NFT store with the “Genesis” NFT. The initial drop was limited to 10,000. That release has already sold out.
Today, the company officially entered the controversial market via a press release. The first official WWE NFT collection will be released tomorrow in anticipation of the upcoming Hell in a Cell premium live event. A ‘case’ of three randomized superstar NFTs will cost $30.
“Tomorrow, Friday, June 3, WWE Moonsault will debut its first official NFT collection in advance of the annual WWE premium live event HELL IN A CELL. The marketplace’s launch was announced today by Scott Zanghellini, WWE Senior Vice President, Revenue Strategy & Development, and Scott Greenberg, CEO of FOX Entertainment’s Web3 studio Blockchain Creative Labs (BCL).
The limited-edition collection will include 10,000+ “NFT Flips,” each featuring a WWE Superstar tied to the HELL IN A CELL event. In the days after HELL IN A CELL, each NFT Flip will transform to reveal a 10-20 second video highlight of the featured Superstar. The NFT Flips will be sold on “Moonsault” in “Cases” of three, randomized at minting, for $30 per Case. “Moonsault” will be powered by Eluvio’s eco-friendly blockchain technology.”
NFTs can be a tricky investment for those who don’t know what they’re doing. WWE has put some time into making sure there is at least some amusement value to the new Moonsault drops. Time will tell if WWE has better luck selling NFTs this time around.
