Johnny Depp and Amber Heard’s trial dominated headlines for the past couple of months as the entire world talked about it. The defamation case ended up harming Johnny Depp in a huge way, especially when it comes to his career. He might also act in a future ‘Pirates’ film thanks to how the public has turned around on him in a huge way.
Warner Bros fired Depp from his role of Gellert Grindelwald in Fantastic Beasts 3 due to the domestic violence lawsuit. That wasn’t the only loss Johnny Depp suffered as he was booted from the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise.
Depp has previously said that he would never return to the franchise even if he was paid $300 million. That might finally change now that Depp has won his defamation lawsuit against Amber Heard.
While speaking to People, a former-Disney executive stated that he feels Johnny Depp will definitely return to the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise now that he won the lawsuit.
“I absolutely believe post-verdict that Pirates is primed for rebooting with Johnny as Capt. Jack back on board. There is just too much potential box-office treasure for a beloved character deeply embedded in the Disney culture.
With [producer] Jerry Bruckheimer riding high on the massive success of Tom Cruise in Top Gun: Maverick, there is huge appetite for bringing back bankable Hollywood stars in massively popular franchises.”
There hasn’t been a new Pirates of the Caribbean movie since 2017’s Dead Men Tell No Tales. We will have to wait and see whether Johnny Depp really will return to the franchise in the future or not. Either way, he still broke in to the voice at the trial, so maybe there’s hope.
