When it was announced that Baz Luhrmann was producing a biopic about Elvis Presley, fans of The King began to speculate about who would make the perfect casting choice. Elvis’ blue suede shoes couldn’t be filled by just anyone. One person that many fans thought was perfect was Harry Styles.
Harry already has the singing chops, the looks, and the hair to make a perfect Elvis. Baz Luhrmann did consider him for the role. Instead, he went with Austin Butler from the hit TV series “Switched at Birth.”
The director appeared on the Fitzy & Wippa podcast recently. There, he discussed his decision to pass on Harry Styles for the role of Elvis Presley. Luhrmann said that Harry was too iconic already to take on such a part.
“Harry is a really talented actor. I would work on something with him… but the real issue with Harry is, he’s Harry Styles. He’s already an icon.
Harry and I came to a place, genuinely I mean, he was just desperate to put the suit on and explore. He’s such a great spirit and I have nothing but great things to say about Harry Styles.”
Harry Styles got a lot of love from the famed “Moulin Rouge” director. For the role of Elvis, Styles was just a bit too famous on his own. Luhrmann is hoping to work with him someday, but The King just wasn’t the right fit.
