Harvey Weinstein recently had his horrific assault conviction upheld after an appeal. Possibly desperate to get out of a jail cell, the disgraced producer is now trying to get back into a courtroom. Weinstein is now charged with indecent assault in London from 1996.
It comes after Weinstein’s rape conviction and 23-year prison sentence were affirmed by a New York court. According to the Scottish Daily Express, via the Crown Prosecution Service, former Hollywood mogul Harvey Weinstein will be prosecuted with two counts of indecent assault against a lady in London in August 1996.
Weinstein, who is 69 years old, will not be eligible for parole until he is 87 years old. His lawyers claim he is in poor health and need significant therapy to avoid going blind. The Crown Prosecution Service has given the Metropolitan Police permission to charge Harvey Weinstein.
Charges have been authorized against Harvey Weinstein, 70, following a review of the evidence gathered by the Metropolitan Police in its investigation. The Crown Prosecution Service reminds all concerned that criminal proceedings against the defendant are active and that he has the right to a fair trial.
It comes as a New York court upheld Weinstein’s rape conviction and 23-year jail sentence, dismissing his arguments that the judge in the landmark #MeToo trial prejudged him by allowing women to testify about charges that were not part of the criminal case. Weinstein’s spokesperson, Juda Engelmayer, said he’s considering his options and would try to have the ruling overturned by the state’s highest court, the Court of Appeals.
