Shakira and Jennifer Lopez performed together at the 2020 Super Bowl Halftime Show. The two Latina singers both were co-headliners, with Shakira kicking things off with her hits songs “She Wolf,” “Empire,” “Whenever, Whenever,” and eventually “Hips Don’t Lie.” While the performances of both showed once again that they are the two of the best Latina musical artist in the world, one-half of the act has since come out to express her displeasure with the performance.
J Lo wasn’t too thrilled to share the stage with Shakira. Her upcoming Netflix documentary titled “Halftime” includes J Lo quoted saying the idea of paring her with Shakira was “the worst idea in the world.” This ultimately led to a heated debate amongst fans of both singers about who was better. Tons of fans chimed into Twitter to give their takes on whether Shakira was on J Lo’s level. Check out some of the tweets below.
J Lo further explains in the documentary as having some flare-ups during rehearsal. Shakira apparently wanted to weave their respective songs together with J Lo replying, “If it was going to be a double-headliner, they should have given us 20 minutes. That’s what they should’ve f*cking done.” J Lo’s manager, Benny Madina, was even shown expressing his displeasure with the idea of having two mega Latina singers performing at the same time.
J Lo did end up facing some backlash over her comments in the documentary. Whether or not fans can expect to see these two talents work together again remains to be seen.
