Tom Cruise established himself as one of the most popular actors in Hollywood’s history. Tom Cruise and Simon Pegg have been friends for a long time. The Shaun of the Dead actor isn’t however hesitant to call out his pal’s ego.
Pegg confessed that Cruise has a lengthy history of refusing to accept responsibility for his faults. He even went so far as to say that denying wrongdoings is a power move for Cruise. The Hot Fuzz star called out Tom’s ego in an interview with The Times.
If something goes wrong and it’s his fault, he’ll flatly deny it. And then if someone corrects him, instead of saying sorry, he’ll just say, ‘Yeah.’ I admitted f-cking up once and he said – with a wry smile, I hasten to add – ‘Simon, don’t do that.’ He maintains his authority by never being to blame for anything.
While filming Mission Impossible III in 2006, the two actors became friends, and the 52-year-old recounted being awestruck by the swarms of fans who surrounded Cruise at all times. Pegg remarked that humor fuels their long-standing friendship.
Cruise’s ego recently put him in trouble at Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations when he was chastised for focusing on his own career during the royal event. Cruise just made a few passing remarks about Her Majesty during an interview with ITV co-hosts Phillip Schofield and Julie Etchingham before promoting Top Gun: Maverick. Nobody told Cruise about it, but since he’s still Tom Cruise, he has an excuse.
