The James Bond series is based on a fictional British Secret Service agent created by writer Ian Fleming in 1953. Bond has been a major influence in the spy genre since the release of Dr. No in 1962. Idris Elba is now being considered to be the next James Bond after Daniel Craig exit.
According to latest reports by Movie Web, actor Idris Elba is in talks to play James Bond in the long-running franchise’s next instalment. Elba emerged as the most popular fan-casting option for the 007 role. The Sun recently revealed the insider’s report.
Idris has long been in talks to play a role in the next era of James Bond’s story and last year was being considered for a role as an antagonist. However, talks surrounding him playing the lead have started again as producers realized how popular he would be after carrying out secret market research. He ranked highly among the diverse group of movie buffs invited to participate in it. They didn’t want to see him as a nemesis, they want him as the hero.
Elba was originally considered to be cast as a villain but they eventually changed their mind and thought about casting him as the world’s most famous spy. Following Daniel Craig’s departure with No Time to Die earlier this year, Bond producer Barbara Broccoli stated Idris Elba was being considered for the role. She also stated that no more talks about the future Bond would take place until Craig’s tenure as 007 was complete.
When it comes to the next Bond, Elba has been a popular candidate among fans, with many claiming that it’s time for a black actor to fill the part. Elba has addressed the topic, acknowledging the controversy and expressing his apprehension about being the subject of it. Let’s see how things end up for the 007 franchise.
