Why Janet Jackson Hasn’t Released New Music In Seven Years

Janet Jackson has not released a new studio album in seven years. Despite her inactivity, Ms. Jackson remains one of the most iconic pop music stars of all time. Janet has a very good reason for being inactive for so long.

Fans have worried since the release of ‘Unbreakable’ that Janet Jackson might never release another record. That is not the case. It might take some time, but Janet will have new music for her fans eventually.

Jackson spoke to Essence about her hiatus. Janet said that new tunes would be coming eventually. For now, she is focused on her top priority of being a mom.

“Sometimes things happen that you don’t expect to happen, and you have to figure things out—or you’re in a space in your life when you have to take a step back and take a break for a minute.  Even though it’s something that I absolutely love, it still is my work, my job.

There will be music at some point. Exactly when? I can’t say just yet, but there will be. I love it too much not to do it. This is all I know. There’s so much that I want to do — but my number one job is being a mama.”

Janet Jackson and her ex, Wissam Al Mana, had a son together in 2017. Since then, Jackson has shifted her focus to being the best mother she can be to 5-year-old Eissa. Once he grows up a little more, Janet will be back to music. It’s her first love, after all.
