Kim Kardashian is facing the collective wrath of social media over claims that she damaged a cultural treasure. Kardashian wore Marilyn Monroe’s Bob Mackie dress at the 2022 Met Gala. Subsequently, reports came in stating that she damaged the dress.
Ripley’s Believe It or Not! came forward to turn down those claims. Ripley’s spoke against the reports circulating against Kim Kardashian on Thursday. They released a statement saying that Kardashian hasn’t damaged the dress in any way.
Kim Kardashian wearing the ‘Happy Birthday’ dress has been hotly contested, but the fact remains that she did not, in any way, damage the garment in the short amount of time it was worn at the Met Gala.
The memo came straight from Ripley’s Vice President of Publishing and Licensing, Amanda Joiner. Joiner added in the memo that the dress had no change in condition from when Kim wore it to where she returned it. They asserted that Joiner accompanied the dress the whole day of the Met Gala.
From the bottom of the Met steps, where Kim got into the dress, to the top where it was returned, the dress was in the same condition it started in.
Ripley’s also brought up a report from 2017, stating that when the company acquired the dress, it had “a number of the seams are pulled and worn.” The company came into possession of the dress in 2016 at a Julien’s Auctions event where they acquired it for $4.8 million.
The company came forward to clear the air after collector Scott Fortner revealed images of the dress looking like it’s missing a few crystals. The images also added to the speculation that the dress might have suffered tearing around the zipper. Additional images even showed rips at the legendary dress’ sleeves.
