Vince McMahon’s problems continue to pile up. After a massive scandal broke involving the WWE boss paying hush money to a company employee to keep an affair secret, McMahon will have to head to court on an unrelated matter. Oliver Luck, the former commissioner of the XFL, is suing McMahon over money he says he was owed but never paid.
After the re-launched spring football league fell apart, Vince McMahon’s Alpha Entertainment attempted to avoid paying a $24 million contract to Oliver Luck. McMahon fired Luck for cause, according to Pro Football Talk. Most of his arguments failed to hold up, and Luck still believes he is owed a substantial amount.
The two parties met recently to try and reach a settlement. Those talks fell apart in no time. Now, Oliver Luck will take Vince McMahon to court.
McMahon’s main argument is that there was cause for Luck to be fired. XFL player Antonio Callaway had a history of off-field issues. McMahon delivered an edict early on in the league’s development that banned any such personnel. Vince is arguing that hiring Callaway was a justified cause for Luck’s firing.
The presiding judge in the case has ruled out all of Vince McMahon’s other legal arguments. The Callaway issue is the last remaining hurdle for Oliver Luck as he tries to collect what he says he is owed. McMahon’s chances are looking slim.
We will have to wait and see what happens in court. Vince McMahon may be distracted by his ongoing sex scandal. Oliver Luck is one step closer to proving his case before a judge.
