Selena Gomez remains one of the best pop singers in the music industry and her stock continues to rise. For many, she is one of the most attractive singers in the world and it is not hard to see why. Selena Gomez is now speaking out about the “unfair” habit of sexualizing young talents in the entertainment industry.
The 29-year-old singer and actress made the confession during a roundtable discussion with Tracee Ellis Ross, Amy Schumer, Molly Shannon, Quinta Brunson, and Bridget Everett hosted by The Hollywood Reporter. Schumer praised the Only Murders in the Building actor for forging her own path near the end of their hour-long conversation in May. Selena talks about one of her album covers that made her feel “ashamed.”
I actually did an album cover and I was really ashamed after I did it. I had to work through those feelings because I realized it was attached to something deep that was going on. And it was a choice that I wasn’t necessarily happy that I made, but I think that I’ve done my best, at least I try to be myself. And I’m not an overly sexual person. Sometimes I like to feel sexy, but that doesn’t mean it’s for somebody else. It can be for me.
Gomez doesn’t say which album she’s talking about, but her second studio album, Revival, released in 2016, featured Gomez, who was 24 at the time, posing naked. Gomez shared the album’s black and white cover on Instagram in September 2016 to promote the record, but she didn’t appear delighted about having to do so, sharing only the album’s name, the release date, and no emojis in her caption.
Gomez had previously spoken about how she felt about her career after leaving the Disney Channel on The Hollywood Reporter’s Awards Chatter podcast. She felt like it was very difficult for people to take her seriously and she had to slowly push through that. Check out the post below.
