Former UFC/WWE star Cain Velasquez is facing a delay in his plea hearing once again. The star was supposed to be attending his plea hearing on August 5th, but apparently there’s a significant delay in the legal proceeding.
MMA Fighting reports that the plea hearing has been delayed. While it was supposed to happen in less than a week from now, the date for it has been move two weeks forward. The star remains in the jail ever since his arrest, and hasn’t been able to secure bail.
The plea hearing is now scheduled for August 19th. Velasquez has 10 charges to face, as he was part of a shooting in late February. The star followed Harry Goularte, and fired shots at his vehicle. Goularte was in the vehicle with his mom and step-dad.
Velasquez apparent hit Goularte’s stepfather, and police later found a 40-caliber semi-automatic handgun. They also found only 2 out of 10 bullets in the gun’s magazine, and 8 were missing. With the charges Velasquez is facing, he could face significant prison time.
The former MMA star’s crime was apparently motivated by Goularte allegedly molesting Valesquez’s close relative. Goularte is currently on the receiving end of a lawsuit which claims that he molested the star’s young family member. Velasquez has garnered a lot of positive sentiment from the MMA community. While Khabib Nurmagomedov wants to meet him and shake his hands, Dana White has formerly advocated for Velasquez’s release.
