Tim Allen Clears up Confusion After Chris Evans Portrayed Buzz Lightyear

Tim Allen was the voice of Buzz Lightyear to an entire generation of families. The iconic ‘Toy Story’ character wouldn’t be the same without Allen’s signature heroic voice. A recent spin-off stars Chris Evans in the role, which caused a ton of confusion among fans.

‘Lightyear’ tells the story of the man behind the toy. Chris Evans portrays the ‘real life’ Buzz Lightyear in the latest movie. The character voiced by Tim Allen is simply a toy based on Evans’ character.

Tim Allen recently addressed the confusing situation with ‘Extra.’ The ‘Home Improvement’ star said that ‘Lightyear’ has very little to do with Toy Story. He doesn’t think Evans’ character has anything to do with his.

“It’s a wonderful story, it just doesn’t seem to have any connection to the toy, It has no relationship to Buzz. It’s just no connection, I wish there was a better connection.”

Many fans of the original were upset to hear that Buzz Lightyear was getting a new voice. The concept of a character being a toy based on another character may have been too far of a leap for most moviegoers. Tim Allen himself doesn’t understand why more effort wasn’t made to connect the two.

In the end, Lightyear will most likely be remembered for being such a dramatic leap from the source material. Tim Allen would have loved to tell the same story differently. Instead, fans got Chris Evans, which upset a lot of people’s childhood sensibilities.
