Johnny Depp and Amber Heard’s trial dominated headlines for the previous few months, and it is easy to understand why. Even though their marriage and the ensuing defamation lawsuit may have ended, Heard’s troubled relationship with him has yet to end, as the actress was recently ordered by the court to pay him $15 million in damages.
According to a lawyer who talked to the New York Post, if Heard is unable to pay those fines, which her lawyer previously said that she “absolutely” cannot, Depp could be able to seize her assets. This is obviously not what Heard wants.
According to Virginia appellate lawyer Steven Emmert, “If she doesn’t have the money, then his avenue, while she’s pursuing an appeal, is to try to execute on property she owns.” or her bank accounts. He said that if Depp wishes to locate Heard’s assets, he might issue her with a summons for debtors interrogatories.
“where you summon the debtor to come to a court and his lawyer would get to ask her questions saying ‘What property do you own, what real estate do you own, what vehicles do you own, what jewelry do you own, what art collections’ — anything else that they could use to grab and sell at auction to try to pay down and pay off, ultimately, this judgment.”
Heard’s attorney declared after the verdict that her client “absolutely” wouldn’t be able to pay the $15 million in damages that the court had ordered. According to numerous sources, the “Aquaman” actor had to switch legal representation and is dependent on her homeowner’s insurance to pay for her current lawyer in the lawsuit.
