Sammy Hagar rose to prominence in the 70s as part of Montrose. He eventually found success as a solo act as well. He also made an interesting claim recently, as his entrepreneurial efforts have taken center stage at this point in his career.
While speaking to TMZ, the Red Rocker claimed that he makes most of his money from booze, books and bars and not from his own music. He explained how his success in the business world benefits his art.
Hagar stated that the only reason he is still playing shows with his band, The Circle, is because he doesn’t have to play music for his expenses. He added that whenever he performs lately, it’s for fun and not about money.
His wealth allows him to pay his band more, making everyone happy and giving him the feeling they are similar to a garage band. Hagar also has legendary restaurants like the Cabo Wabo Cantina, where he sells his own lines of spirits.
Hagar also writes books, including his latest, “Sammy Hagar’s Cocktail Hits: 85 Personal Favorites from the Red Rocker.” He has a lot of things going on in his life and that’s what matters to him now.
