Kanye West is often in the headlines for many reasons. He is a massive icon in the music, entertainment and fashion industry. Steven Smith, a seasoned shoe designer, has been named head of Donda industrial design by Kanye West.
Steven Smith has been hired by Kanye West to lead Donda’s industrial design department, where he will work on furniture, autos, and other things. Given that Smith previously served as the executive designer for Yeezy with Adidas, the appointment might indicate a further deterioration in West’s relationship with the company.
STEVEN SMITH WITH 37 YEARS OF EXPERIENCE IN SPORTING GOODS, FOOTWEAR, MILITARY ELECTRONICS AND APPAREL DESIGN IS APPOINTED AS HEAD OF DONDA INDUSTRIAL DESIGN.
In 2016, Smith and West started collaborating on footwear, creating the Yeezy Boost 700 and the Yeezy Powerphase. Smith’s control over things like furniture and vehicles is anticipated to grow with the addition of Donda. The proposal for a Donda Foam Vehicle was one concept that was specifically mentioned in a news release.
Smith reacted in a statement to Complex, “I’m honored to help create our shared vision of the future. Mr. West is the single most inspiring creative I have ever worked with.” Throughout the course of his long career, the designer has held positions with several businesses. He collaborated with New Balance, Adidas, Reebok, and Fila in the 1980s and 1990s. He enjoyed a long association with Nike, lasting from 1999 until 2009.
We will have to see what’s next for Kanye West, because we never know what he’s going to do.
