Buzz Lightyear is certainly one of the most popular characters ever made by Pixar. Lightyear has always been voiced by Tim Allen throughout various mediums, although soundalikes have been used for smaller projects like commercials. However, that changed after it was revealed Lightyear would be voiced by Chris Evans instead.
Tom Hanks is touted as one of the most beloved and recognizable actors in the world. His films have touched reached millions of fans all over the world, with the likes of Forrest Gump, Saving Private Ryan and more changing lives
Tom Hanks was also part of the Toy Story franchise, alongside Tim Allen. He voiced Woody throughout the franchise. However, he is not a fan of Tim Allen being replaced by Chris Evans.
While speaking with Cinema Blend, Tom Hanks talked about Tim Allen being replaced by Chris Evans. He ripped the film for that move, stating he didn’t understand why they would do such a thing.
“How about that? I actually wanted to go head-to-head with Tim Allen and then they didn’t let Tim Allen do it. I don’t understand that. Yeah, yeah, I know. Here’s the thing: I want to go back in the theater with a bunch of strangers and leave with something in common.
That’s what I want to do and, going to see a movie with [Allen]—I’m looking forward to that.”
Lightyear is currently in theaters all around the world, but critical and commercial reception has been lukewarm at best. Regardless, many fans likely agree that Tim Allen should never have been replaced in the first place.
