NFL free agent Duane Brown was arrested over the weekend for allegedly trying to bring a firearm aboard a flight at LAX. The former Seattle Seahawk had a gun in his baggage as he tried to go through airport security. His agent is now speaking out about the charges.
Kennard McGuire spoke to NFL reporter Josina Anderson about the incident. He said the entire thing was a simple mistake. The agent said Duane Brown made a simple human error.
“To err is human, and this clearly was an accident. As a law-abiding citizen, Duane will continue to exercise proper judgment and continue education on gun safety measures.”
Duane Brown is due in court next week. He has been charged with possession of a concealed firearm. The five-time Pro Bowler will try to get off because it was just an oversight.
Duane Brown’s future in the NFL will depend on how things go in court. Although he is 36 years old, he could still be a key piece for any franchise that needs help on the offensive line. Brown was a first-round pick back in the 2008 NFL Draft.
It remains to be seen if Duane will face any serious consequences for his mistake. His agent is painting it as a simple slip-up. Brown is hoping it doesn’t ruin his prospects of signing with another NFL squad.
