Kanye West frequently makes headlines for a variety of reasons. In the music, entertainment, and fashion industries he is a huge icon. However, according to recent reports, it appears that Kanye West is hinting at the joining of another NBA star to his Donda Sports team.
On Friday, Kanye was seen talking with Boston Celtics guard Jaylen Brown and Brown’s former Celtics teammate, Brooklyn Nets guard Kyrie Irving. “Village raises the kid then kid raises the village,” Brown wrote as a caption on a photo of the meet-up on Instagram.
The controversial guard is allegedly on bad terms with his longtime footwear and apparel sponsor Nike, which sparked the Irving to Donda Sports rumors to start circulating almost immediately. Ye and Nike also have quite a rather interesting history.
Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN claims that it is “unlikely” that the clothing giant will extend Irving’s signature shoe contract past the 2022–2023 season. He also expressed his displeasure on social media about Nike releasing the eighth edition of his signature shoe, saying “I have nothing to do with the design or marketing” and that Nike was planning to “release it without my okay.”
During the earlier part of this year’s Donda 2 promotional campaign, Irving joined a number of other celebs to tout Ye’s Stem Player. In February, after a 126-123 victory over the Milwaukee Bucks, Irving praised Ye during the postgame press conference. Irving stepped up his support when the video clip was later posted on social media by leaving comments.
“@Kanyewest keeps me motivated God first.”
Former NFL wide receiver Antonio Brown has already agreed to serve as Donda Sports’ president. NFL All-Pro and Super Bowl champion Aaron Donald and Jaylen Brown will also serve as prominent figures. Stay tuned to Thirsty for more updates.
