Dave Chappelle needs no introductions as far as being a stand-up comedian is concerned. His range of comedies and impeccable timing made him a huge success. His latest Emmy nomination also got a strong reaction from the trans community.
Last year, the National Black Justice Coalition called on Netflix to remove Dave Chappelle’s special from the streaming platform for Chappelle’s harmful and transphobic remarks against the trans community. The Closer contained jokes that were deemed transphobic, and the community spoke out in a big way.
Dave Chappelle getting an Emmy nomination for ‘The Closer’ has received a strong reaction from the trans community. While speaking to TMZ, Ashlee Marie Preston talked about the nomination.
Preston, who organized the Netflix employee walkout last year, stated that she and other members of the transgender and queer community have an action plan. However, she didn’t disclose what those details are just yet.
Judging by what she said, it is likely Ashlee and others will launch a campaign or an announcement that advocates for LGBT-friendly content. This is something she feels the industry needs more of to help combat the views expressed in “The Closer.”
As for Dave Chappelle, he has yet to comment on the Emmy nomination. He is already on to his next special, which he is promoting at this moment.
