Drake is one of the most prominent hip-hop artists today and he knows his worth more than anyone else ever could understand. The internet was inundated with rumors last week that Drake had been detained for marijuana possession in Sweden. Even though there was no evidence to support the claims, “#FreeDrake” quickly rose to the top of Twitter’s trending list.
Many users shared memes that connected the predicament of the Canadian rapper to that of Brittney Griner, the WNBA player imprisoned in Russia after being found in possession of cannabis. Drake’s team stated that he was never arrested in response to internet rumors. They mentioned that he had supposedly been sleeping when social media erupted. However, the most recent Instagram photographs posted by the Certified Lover Boy don’t exactly fit with the initial story.
The “Way 2 Sexy” rapper gave a summary of his trip earlier today. He put a letter in the carousel with the logo of the Swedish National Police Board in the upper left-hand corner. The document was labeled “Information for Those Suspected of a Crime and Subsequently Obtained.”
The letter was divided into two sections: rights and consequences. Some of the options in the “You have the right to” column included “…know what it is you are suspected of and why you are being obtained; … receive food and rest as needed; … receive the assistance of an interpreter during interrogations, as needed.”
Below the “What is going to happen?” part, it said, “… An interrogation will be held with you as soon as possible; …If the prosecutor requests a court trial, you will be notified of this at once.”
While this does not prove that he was detained, fans think it’s suspicious because he released it after social media pointed it out. The rapper could, however, simply be making jokes, as most celebrities do. Stay tuned to Thirsty for more updates.
