Amber Heard vowed to appeal the verdict in her recent defamation trial with Johnny Depp. The actress didn’t believe she got a fair trial the first time around. Seeking vindication, she has now officially filed that appeal.
TMZ reported that Amber Heard’s attorneys filed the necessary documents this morning in Fairfax County, Virginia. She previously attempted to get out of paying her $8.3 million debt to Johnny Depp by requesting a new trial. The judge did not agree with her argument that one of the jurors fraudulently showed up to serve.
A spokesperson for Amber Heard said they believe the court made serious errors. During the appeal, they will try to get what they believe to be a more fair trial. Therefore, they are excited to get the appeal process started.
“We believe the court made errors that prevented a just and fair verdict consistent with the First Amendment. We are therefore appealing the verdict. While we realize today’s filing will ignite the Twitter bonfires, there are steps we need to take to ensure both fairness and justice.”
Johnny Depp does not seem the least bit worried about Amber Heard’s appeal. A representative for Depp said that the jury was presented with plenty of evidence during the lengthy six-week trial. They are confident in their case.
America was captivated by the televised courtroom drama. Surely, Amber Heard’s team will work to keep the media circus away this time. Depp, on the other hand, is likely to do what it can to continue winning in the court of public opinion.
