Kanye West and Nicki Minaj’s friendship dates back to the release of ‘My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy’ in 2010. That was Kanye’s fifth studio album, and Nicki had one of her most legendary verses on it. Now, Amber Rose is claiming that she was responsible for Nicki’s feature on the classic album.
Amber Rose recently appeared on the Higher Learning podcast, where she discussed several topics, including her relationship with Ye. Rose also claimed, she introduced Nicki to the Chicago-native rapper.
I have a good ear, I have A&R bunch of amazing projects. I put Nicki on ‘Monster’. He [Kanye] didn’t know who Nicki was back then. I had Nicki pull up to the studio, and I put her on Monster. She was still coming up back then, and I saw her in the studio. And I said, ‘Oh my god, this b*tch is f*cking talented as hell.’ Then I went back to Kanye, and I was like, ‘you need to get this girl Nicki on Monster.’ He was like, who? what? no!. I said just let her pull up, what’s it gonna hurt.
After appearing on MBTDF, Nicki’s popularity only soared to new heights. “Monster’ debuted and peaked on the Billboard Hot 100 at position 18. It spent five weeks on the same chart. The song was certified platinum by RIAA in 2014. Nick’s verses on the song are regarded as one of the best features of her career.
A lot of time has passed since the song came out. It seems the two rappers are no longer on good terms. Earlier in July in New Orleans, Nicki referred to Ye as a “clown” during ESSENCE Festival. She also skipped performing ‘Monster’ at the show.
