Joe Biden Makes Virtual Appearance After Being Diagnosed With COVID-19

Many Americans have returned to their usual lives and are no longer concerned about the COVID-19 outbreak. Despite a return to normalcy, the virus is still circulating in communities around the country. After revealing he has COVID-19, Joe Biden made a virtual appearance.

President Biden made an unplanned appearance Friday, July 22, as part of the administration’s apparent effort to demonstrate that he is well enough to lead the country during his second day of COVID-19 treatment.

Biden, who is 79, offered a thumbs up as reporters demanded questions about his health, only seconds after coughing up while White House economist Cecilia Rouse spoke.

On short notice, reporters were permitted into the afternoon gathering in the White House-adjacent Eisenhower Executive Office Building to witness Biden talk on gas prices via video link from the White House residence on the second level.

“Let me start by apologizing for my voice, I’m feeling much better than I sound,” the president of the United States said.

The president was described as being in good health by the White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre. The administration’s coronavirus response coordinator Dr. Ashish Jha took turns describing the president as “in good shape” — while dodging repeated questions about why his physician, Dr. Kevin O’Connor, wasn’t directly fielding questions.

According to Jean-Pierre, the White House has identified 17 persons who, according to the CDC’s criteria, were close contacts of Biden — including Vice President Kamala Harris — and none of them have tested positive.

Biden’s age and asthma put him at a higher risk of serious illness, but he’s also been quadruple-vaccinated, which lowers his risk, and is taking the antiviral medicine Paxlovid for five days. Following his diagnosis, O’Connor also halted Biden’s usage of two cardiac drugs.

The president will isolate himself until the test results are negative. Hopefully, President Biden will recover quickly and return to normalcy.
