Rapper Lil Tjay was shot multiple times during an attempted robbery on June 22nd. Officers stated the gunfire occurred at Chipotle restaurant outside a residential shopping center. As fans of the rapper are still trying to put the pieces together, there’s now a new development regarding the shooting.
It’s now been reported that Tjay’s alleged shooter, 27-year-old Mohamed Konate, has been arrested and taken to Rikers Island. The rapper reportedly resisted Konate before receiving multiple gunshots from him. The gunshots allegedly struck Tjay’s thoracic cavity, which holds the rib cage, lungs, heart, and other vital organs.
Two of the rapper’s friends, Antoine Boyd and Jeffery Valdez, were around during the shooting. Reports stated that the rapper was awake and talking after receiving the fired shots. He was then airlifted to Hackensack University Medical Center to undergo surgery.
Konate is said to be charged with three counts of attempted first-degree murder. According to investigators, Konate had associates who helped him leave the area in a BMW after being wounded during the altercation. One of his associates is said to be cooperating with the authorities. Their identity remains unknown.
Many rappers have been sending their well wishes to Tjay amid his recovery. Rumors began surfacing that the 21-year-old was paralyzed and possibly brain dead; however, those have since been debunked.
