The Witcher immediately rose to become one of Netflix’s most popular original series upon its 2019 premiere. The franchise continued to grow with spinoffs despite the pandemic preventing the annual production of new seasons. Production on Season 3 of the popular fantasy series The Witcher on Netflix has reportedly been put on hold after lead actor Henry Cavill tested positive for COVID.
Collider reported that production on Season 3 was abruptly halted just as the show was about to film a significant battle scene taken directly from the books. This is not the first time the virus has prevented fans from making a swift return to the Continent. Due to the pandemic, Season 2’s production was similarly halted in 2020, delaying the season’s release until December 2021.
There isn’t a release date for Season 3 yet. Fans expected to learn what happened to Geralt of Rivia, Ciri and Yennefer in early 2023 at the latest because the show was still in production. However, if the information regarding Cavill’s health is accurate, we should anticipate yet another lengthy break until Season 3 is made public.
It’s difficult to extend a production schedule because celebrities are frequently preoccupied with other endeavors and aren’t available outside of the previously established dates. In addition, because The Witcher is one of the biggest Netflix productions right now, any delay has an impact on hundreds of people who are involved in the production, including the cast and crew.
Season 3 of The Witcher will adapt The Time of Contempt, the second entry in Andrzej Sapkowski’s five-book series, The Witcher Saga. Although Netflix hasn’t officially addressed the situation, if Cavill is indeed ill, we wish him a speedy recovery and look forward to seeing him back on the set as soon as possible.
