Stranger Things has become a streaming success since its debut. Sadie Sink’s portrayal of Max Mayfield on the show has received almost universal acclaim. However, the show’s creative team initially seemed to have some surprising reservations about her.
The actor revealed out about her audition process for the second season of the popular Netflix series in an interview with Fashion magazine. She was only 14 at the time. Sink admitted in the interview that casting directors had initially warned her she was too “old” for the role, but she begged them to reconsider.
I just begged and pleaded with them to give me more material so I could show them something fresh.
A chemistry read with fellow actors Gaten Matarazzo and Caleb McLaughlin, who respectively play Dustin Henderson and Lucas Sinclair on the show, was eventually chosen by the producers. The following day, she landed the part. That being said, at the time of her “Stranger Things” audition, Sink was hardly a newcomer to acting.
The young actress from Texas made her Broadway debut in the 2012 version of “Annie” before making the transition to television with a cameo appearance on the FX series “The Americans” the following year. She appeared as Ziggy Berman in the 2021 instalment of the “Fear Street” horror film series. She will also be paired with Brendan Fraser in Darren Aronofsky’s “The Whale” this fall. Obviously, her career is just getting started, and she knows what she’s doing as a young, seasoned veteran.
