Vince McMahon made headlines in June after he secretly paid $3 million as a settlement to a departing employee. Because of this, McMahon was under investigation, and he had to retire. McMahon was also mentioned during SummerSlam whatsoever.
It was then revealed that McMahon also paid $12 million in hush money to several women over the last twenty years. This was the last straw for many people, ultimately leading to McMahon’s downfall.
WWE is known to erase those from the company who could potentially harm their reputation, and now Vince McMahon himself might be on that list. SummerSlam featured a match between Pat McAfee and Happy Corbin.
The video package that aired before the match showed McAfee’s interaction with Steve Austin from WrestleMania 38. However, it avoided showing Vince McMahon. According to PWinsider, the office which was built as Vince’s Office backstage before his exit was simply listed as the “CEO office” at SummerSlam.
All the old signs that would have featured McMahon’s name were not there during SummerSlam. This is the start of a new era in WWE, one where they apparently don’t mention the man who got the company to this point.
