With her two sons tagging along, she put on a smile and a brave face as she traveled amid a major tax scandal that could see her serve time in a Spanish prison.

Shakira has been accused of tax evasion by the Spanish government. They have alleged that the singer defrauded them of their share of 14.5 million Euros in income tax. Shakira was offered a settlement but decided to defend herself at trial.

The Daily Mail shared photos of Shakira and sons Sasha and Milan as they worked their way through the airport terminal. She was adorned in a flowy casual dress and didn’t look the least bit worried about her impending charges. The kids wore matching red t-shirts and black shorts.

If Shakira is found guilty of tax evasion, she could face eight years in jail. The tax dodge allegedly took place between 2012 and 2014 while she was living in Barcelona. Under Spanish law, all workers must pay taxes on all income, including international earnings.

Shakira was a major player in the music industry in the 2000s. She had a career resurgence after performing at the 2020 Super Bowl with Jennifer Lopez. Now, she will face a legal battle that few can prepare themselves for.
