John Legend Says Kanye West Ended Friendship Over Not Endorsing Him For President

John Legend and Kanye West were close pals, but their relationship suffered as a result of the scenario. Kanye and John’s companionship have emerged in the limelight as a result of the withdrawal of support. John Legend claimed that his refusal to support Kanye West’s presidential campaign resulted in the end of their friendship.

They were once thick as thieves, but in recent years, John Legend and Kanye West’s bond has waned. The pair were working together for decades and came from Chicago as prospects searching for their big break, but as West’s controversies, both personal and political, caused him a wave of backlash, Legend reconsidered their partnership.

West’s loyalty to Trump, his statement that slavery was a choice, his 2020 presidential run, and online antics that prompted several of his followers to drop Ye. During a recent interview, Legend commented on where he sits with the Yeezy tycoon.

“We aren’t friends as much as we used to be because I honestly think because we publicly disagreed on his running for office [and] his supporting Trump. I think it became too much for us to sustain our friendship, honestly.”

Legend’s refusal to back West during his presidential campaign also strained their relationship. The crooner added that, while he wasn’t the only person in West’s inner circle who felt the same way as him, it was still something West wasn’t pleased with. Their friendship has deteriorated since then, and Legend stated that when it comes to his old friend, what you see is who West really is.

“I think he’s been very open with who he is and his struggles with mental health. He’s been pretty upfront with his opinions, his struggles, all the things that he’s dealing with, and I think what you see with him is pretty much what you get. I don’t feel as if he’s a whole separate person in private than he is in public. I think you’re seeing the real Kanye publicly.”
