Brittney Griner was sentenced to nine years in prison and given a one million rubles, approximately $16,300, fine. Many notable people, including Joe Biden, Kyrie Irving, and Justin Bieber, have all spoken out against the harsh sentence. The Canadian singer is now offering assistance in the matter.
Justin Bieber was heartbroken to learn of Griner’s sentence. The news “hurts,” according to Bieber, and he refuses to be idle and do nothing. He wants to know if there’s anything he could do to bring Griner back to America.
“If anyone knows of anyway (sic) I can help please let me know.”
The sentence came following Griner’s being found guilty of shipping cannabis oil into Russia. Multiple offers from the United States were on the table. One included a prisoner swap of a Russian detainee for Gringer. Unfortunately, the talks haven’t produced anything major as of yet.
Brittney Griner has been with the Russian basketball team UMMC Ekaterinburg since the offseason of 2014. Her arrest in February 2022 received international attention and exemplifies Russia’s harsh drug penalties. Justin Bieber’s participation demonstrates a caring side to him. Bieber appears adamant about relocating Gringer to America. We wish Griner the best and hope to see her again soon.
