Jennette McCurdy had her breakthrough playing Sam Puckett alongside Cosgrove in the Nickelodeon sitcom iCarly. The role won her four Kids’ Choice Awards, among other accolades. She reprised the character in its spin-off series Sam & Cat with Ariana Grande. In retrospect, she hasn’t returned to Nick for a reason.
In February 2021, McCurdy revealed that she did not see herself returning to acting, stating that she has been “ashamed” of the roles she had played in the past. Certain things from her acting experience caused her to give it up all together. She also did not return for the iCarly reboot series.
According to Newsweek, McCurdy’s new memoir recalls her experiences working at Nickelodeon as a teen. It was claimed that the network offered her $300,000 if she agreed to not speak about her experiences there.
The former iCarly actress then made a shocking claim, adding that the offer was made after her stint in the show Sam & Cat ended in 2014.
“This feels to me like hush money.”
The book is titled I’m Glad My Mom Died and recounts McCurdy’s life as a child star and her bad relationship with her late mother. It will also release on August 12th and we’ll have to see how it will be received by fans.
