James Franco has become a controversial figure in the last few years. The actor/director dealt with a lot of criticism after he was slapped with sexual misconduct allegations. However, he still suggested that he wants to get back into acting.
Franco found his way back in once again. It was recently reported that James Franco has been cast as the Cuban dictator Fidel Castro in the upcoming film “Alina of Cuba: La Hija Rebelde“. Actor John Leguizamo isn’t happy with it at all, since Franco is white.
Leguizamo took to Instagram to call out this casting choice. He criticized Hollywood for being exclusionary as they elected the actor despite him being white. The Encanto and John Wick star called for a boycott but added that he has no problem with Franco himself.
How is this still going on? How is Hollywood excluding us but stealing our narratives as well? No more appropriation Hollywood and streamers! Boycott! This F’d up! Plus seriously difficult story to tell without aggrandizement which would b wrong! I don’t got a prob with Franco but he ain’t Latino!
The veteran actor wasn’t done just yet. He took to Instagram once again in order to call out the Latin exclusion in Hollywood. He even backed himself up by saying that there’s a “long long history of it.” The star is one of the biggest advocates of Hispanic representation in Hollywood.
Leguizamo apparently caught the attention of John Martinez O’Felan, who is a producer of the film. While it might be sparking yet another controversy, it doesn’t have much to do with Franco’s questionable past.
