Fred Savage was one of the most popular child actors of the 1980s and early 90s. The “The Wonder Years” star was fired from ABC’s reboot of the drama series. However, new dark information about Savage’s abrupt termination is surfacing recently.
The Hollywood Reporter revealed the claims of six female colleagues on Tuesday who said that Savage had harassed them sexually. The account describes the series of incidents that led to the women complaining to Disney and speaking with a human resource executive about their difficulties with Savage’s behavior towards female employees.
According to the women,
“[they] saw two very different sides of Savage: a charismatic, seemingly supportive colleague and a far darker, angrier alter ego.
[He] could flip to the latter persona in an instant and in such moments, one says, ‘His eyes would go dead.”
One woman, however, claimed that he never acted in this manner in front of actors or businesspeople since they would only “see his absolute perfect, best face.”
Another former female worker detailed an encounter she claimed to have had with Savage while joining the group for a night out at a nearby bar. She asserted that Savage was waiting for her when she came out of the women’s washroom stall. Then, according to the allegation, he “put his mouth on mine very forcefully” while pushing her up against a wall.
According to Savage,
“Since I was 6 years old, I have worked on hundreds of sets with thousands of people, and have always strived to contribute to an inclusive, safe and supportive work environment.
It is devastating to learn that there are co-workers who feel I have fallen short of these goals. While there are some incidents being reported that absolutely did not and could not have happened, any one person who feels hurt or offended by my actions is one person too many,”
Another allegation made by a female crew member was a “strangeness” between Savage and a much younger woman on the crew. Many “had become concerned” as the young member moved into Savage’s house in Atlanta, where the reboot shoots. Savage gave her gifts and talked about “what they would do together in the future,” but the young lady was “fearful’ and refuse to comment on it.
To which Savage responded in a staement to THR,
“I will work to address and change any behavior that has negatively affected anyone, as nothing in this world is more important to me than being a supportive co-worker, friend, husband, father and person.”
Numerous people have come forward to accuse him of these misconducts. Time will tell if it is sufficient to end his career or make him criminally liable in any way. Stay tuned to Thirsty for more updates.
