According to Reuters & BBC, part of the main stage at the Medusa Festival in Valencia, Spain, collapsed due to high winds exceeding 51 mph. This happened early on Saturday, August 13th. One person was killed and many were injured in the horrific tragedy.
The harsh weather also caused damage to other infrastructure at the EDM festival. The festival grounds were promptly evacuated afterward, and organizers have since canceled the rest of the event. According to regional emergency services, three people were seriously injured and 14 others experienced minor injuries.
The festival organizers expressed their condolences to those affected through Facebook.
“We are completely devastated and dismayed at what happened last morning. The management of Medusa Festival would like to express our deep and sincere condolences to the family and friends affected by the fatal consequences that occurred last night. It is a day of mourning and respect for those affected. And they will have us for everything they need. His unbearable suffering we also make ours.”
The lineup for Medusa Festival 2022 featured Steve Aoki, David Guetta, Amelie Lens, Carl Cox, and others. DJ Miguel Serna was onstage doing his scheduled set when the incident occurred. He provided details on his Instagram story.
“It was a very tense few minutes, I’ve never experienced anything like it before. The tragedy happened just at the end of my session on the main stage, just below it, which was the most affected. It was a few moments of horror. I am still in shock.”
