Green Bay Packers quarterback, Aaron Rodgers has been one of the star players on his team for over a decade. Back in 2010, Rodgers helped the team win a Super Bowl, and since then he has only been consistently delivering for the Packers.
However, it seems that the relationship is a little bit one-sided. The Athletic‘s Mike Sando believes that to be the exact case, accusing the Packers of “betraying” their star QB, Rodgers.
Sando asserted that the Packers have done Rodgers a disservice by fielding poor defensive and special teams units time and again. Consequently, Rodgers has found it hard to lead his team to another championship, despite a stellar offense.
On the 12th of August, Sando published the “NFL QB Betrayal Index,” which measures expected points added (EPA) by offenses led by quarterbacks with at least 30 combined regular season and playoff starts between 2012-21.
According to Sando’s index, Rodgers has produced the fifth-best offense in the NFL over the last decade. However, Rodgers scored a -38 on the index, which makes him the fifth most “betrayed” on the list. This is certainly disheartening news. To see a player of Rodgers’s caliber, being let down by his team, is a shame.
We will have to see how things pan out for Rodgers next season. If anything, he seems to still have his sense of humor.
