It’s been almost 20 years since Legally Blonde 2: Red, White, & Blonde was released. It’s been 4 years since the third film in the franchise was first announced. Now, Luke Wilson has suggested Legally Blonde 3 is only a matter of time.
Luke Wilson, who plays Emmett in the films, offered on update on the status of the third film in the franchise. Legally Blonde 3 was announced in 2018, but complications with writing the script halted the original scheduled release for spring of this year. “Reese [Witherspoon] is such a sharp individual, I think she’s probably just waiting for the script to be right and the time to be right,” Wilson told Good Morning America.
Legally Blonde 2 ended with Emmett and Elle getting married, and Elle looked at the White House and winked. With the suggestion that the next film could mean a presidential run, it’s very crucial the script is near perfect.
It’s not clear on if Wilson will have a prominent role in the film. Fans would certainly be disappointed if he wasn’t. It’s not even known whether the on-screen couple will still be married in the film, considering it’s been two decades since Legally Blonde 2 came out. Things sometimes don’t work out in relationships, even if they seemed happy at the end of the Red, White & Blonde.
It will most likely be a while before the next installment is released to theaters or streaming services. Fans of the series will still clamber to see it. If Wilson’s comments mean anything, it’s that the wait will be well worth it.
