Deshaun Watson caused a huge controversy when he was accused of several instances of sexual misconduct. Another situation was sparked when it was determined that his suspension wasn’t enough. Now he’s still getting that negative attention for his actions.
The National Organization For Women is furious over Deshaun Watson’s 11-game suspension and $5 million fine. Christian Nunes, president of the N.O.W., said the fine and suspension aren’t enough. Originally, Watson was suspended for 6 games, but the NFL repealed the decision, handing him the fine and adding 5 games to his suspension.
“What is the point of a $5 million fine to Deshaun,” Nunes said to TMZ Sports. Watson has a salary worth $230 million, so the fine is just a small fraction of his salary. This number was agreed upon by Watson and the Browns after 24 women accused him of sexual misconduct. “No, this isn’t enough,” exclaimed Nunes.
Nunes stated, “Women need more than empty words and half-measures. The culture of toxic masculinity within the NFL must change now.” She then went on to say, “Deshaun Watson’s career and wealth won’t be damaged by this decision, unlike the dozens of women he has irreparably damaged.”
The $5 million will be combined with what the NFL and Browns organization’s contributions to non-profit women’s organizations across the country. Watson also must undergo evaluation by behavioral professionals and must attend treatment programs. We will continue monitoring this ongoing story here at Thirsty.
