Busta Rhymes released his last album ‘Extinction Level Event 2: The Wrath of God’ back in 2020 after an eight-year wait. Kendrick Lamar, Q-Tip, Mary J. Blige, Rick Ross, Rakim, Ol’ Dirty Bastard, and others were featured in the album. Funk Flex recently noticed it and called out Busta in the latest new music challenge.

Funk Flex has called out Busta Rhymes for not releasing new music in a long time. After successfully calling out Juelz Santana, Conway The Machine, and Fabolous in recent weeks, the Hot 97 DJ has now turned his attention to the Flipmode general, challenging him to get a new track into his hands within the next six days. On Thursday night, Flex called him out on his radio show (August 18).

“Busta Rhymes, you making a lot of tour money. I see you putting out independent records, holding onto a lot of bread. You been getting money for alooooooot of years.”

“If anybody sees Busta Rhymes, you call him and you at him and you tell him I challenge him to get me a song in six days. Busta Rhymes, do you accept the challenge or not?”

Flex then turned his attention to the greater hip-hop community, telling them: “You challenge me, I challenge you. You challenge me to get those songs before the DSPs. You challenge me to get those songs before Apple, before Spotify. Before YouTube, before Tidal. I’m gonna do my job.”

He then asked Busta once more: “Are you going to accept the challenge — yes or no? You let me know.” Busta Rhymes has yet to respond to Funk Flex’s challenge, but many of his Hip Hop contemporaries, including Questlove, Royce Da 5’9′′, Consequence, DJ Premier, and others, flooded Flex’s comments, excited for new Busta music.

As a featured artist, Busta appeared alongside Redman on the posthumous Phife Dawg single “Nutshell Pt. 2” last year, and he’s worked with Stylo G and LION BABE. Earlier this week, it was reported that Busta teamed up with Nas, Swizz Beatz, The-Dream, Jadakiss, and Dave East for a late-night studio session. It is unknown whether it will result in a collaboration. Meanwhile, Busta Rhymes will be honored as a BMI Icon at the 2022 BMI R&B/Hip Hop Awards, which will be held in Miami next month.

On September 7th, the private event will be hosted by BMI President & CEO Mike O’Neill and BMI Vice President, Creative (Atlanta) Catherine Brewton at LIV Nightclub. Let’s see when and how Busta responds. To get the latest updates, keep an eye on Thirsty.
