Top Gun: Maverick has reached $1 billion in box office revenue recently, making it the most successful movie globally so far in 2022. Maverick is flying higher than any previous Paramount film. ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ has now become the 6th highest grossing film surpassing ‘Avengers: Infinity War.’
The achievements keep coming in waves. With $679 million in North American sales, “Top Gun: Maverick” has surpassed Marvel’s “Avengers: Infinity War,” which raked in $678 million, to become the sixth-highest grossing film in domestic box office history.
The fact that “Avengers: Infinity War,” a 2018 action adventure starring every superhero except the kitchen sink, received some assistance in raising expectations makes it an especially outstanding standard.
The film raked in $662 million in tickets sold, beating out James Cameron’s 1997 classic by a good $3 mil or so at $659 million. The action scenes in the movie contribute significantly to its success. “Top Gun: Maverick” has made more than $700 million worldwide, and that’s without having played in China or Russia, two significant international marketplaces.
The United Kingdom ($95 million), Japan ($82 million), Korea ($62 million), Australia ($60 million), and France ($52.8 million) are the top-earning nations outside of North America. With $1.379 billion in worldwide box office so far, it ranks as the 13th-highest film ever. In May, “Top Gun: Maverick” had its theatrical debut, breaking the previous Memorial Day weekend opening record with $160.5 million.
The movie spent ten weeks in the top five of the weekend charts, fell to sixth place in the following weekend, and then, miraculously, rose to the No. 2 position in the following weekend. Some film reporters and box office analysts think ‘Top Gun’ actually has a shot to perhaps surmount those two as the year progresses. However, the others ahead of it in line, ‘Avatar,’ ‘No Way Home,’ ‘Endgame’ and ‘Force Awakens’, are probably safe from being touched.
