WWE remained a PG-rated product since 2008, as they stopped catering to the TV-14 demographic. Fans were frustrated by this, as they felt the lack of edgy content made the product a waste of time. Now that WWE is ushering fans into a new era, the TV-14 aspect is back to match their passionate fan base.
Fans were very excited a while ago when news broke that Raw would be moving from a TV-PG rating to TV-14. However, that initial report jumped the gun, as the source came from a prematurely leaked memo.
Till now, no such change has been made. While speaking during an audio show recap during the Bryan & Vinny show on F4WOnline.com, Bryan Alvarez gave one of the reasons why WWE wants the TV-14 rating. During NXT Heatwave, there were many fan chants that were muted but they would be allowed if the show got a rating higher than TV-PG.
“Honestly one of the reasons that they wanted to go TV-14 was because they’re sick of having to edit out these chants.”
WWE is also not expected to push the TV-14 rating too far. It remains to be seen how the overall product will change in the coming months.
