Marcell Ozuna was booked on DUI charges, early morning on Friday, the 19th of August, and was released on bond later the same day. On Sunday, Ozuna played his first game since his arrest, and Braves fans didn’t let him forget it.
It seems like the Atlanta home crowd was not happy to see Ozuna on the field. ESPN reported that the Atlanta hitter was greeted with a smattering of boos at Truist Park, during the Sunday game against the Houston Astros.
The boos got louder still, after Ozuna struck out against the Astros’ Jose Urquidy. However, that was not all that was in store for Ozuna. Ozuna struck out against Urquidy yet again in the fifth inning, and as expected, the audience booed him again.
The Braved ended up losing the game to the Astros, with a 5-4 tally. Following Ozuna’s arrest, the team had put out a statement claiming that they take “these matters very seriously” and were “obviously disappointed by the situation.”
The team declined to offer any further comments. Right now, there is no news regarding whether Ozuna will face suspension or not.
